Meet the expert

Dr. Ravi Assomull, MA, MD, FRCP, is a Consultant Cardiologist, Founder of Cardiologist London and Co-founder of One Heart Clinic. As an Integrative Cardiologist, his approach is transforming patient care by bridging the gap between reactive medical treatment and proactive prevention.

He started practising as a Doctor in 1999 and has been a Consultant Cardiologist since 2011.

He treats patients privately and has previously held the following NHS positions:

  • Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Community Cardiology at Imperial College NHS Trust service.
  • Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Director of Cardiac MRI at London Northwest Healthcare NHS Trust.

Education and training

Dr. Assomull qualified from the University of Cambridge and undertook research at the Royal Brompton Hospital, culminating in a prize-winning research thesis. He received further training at the top teaching hospitals in the UK, including the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, Imperial College NHS Trust (Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospital), UCLH NHS Trust, and St George’s Hospital NHS Trust.

He subsequently trained as an Interventional Cardiologist and practised for 10 years, undertaking coronary angioplasty and stenting.

Clinical focus

Dr. Assomull likes to keep up to date with the latest research and investigations in his field to provide his patients with a tailored, patient-centred approach and permit accurate, efficient diagnoses.

He mainly specialises in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), and assessment of coronary artery disease with a focus on risk factor control. His expertise in advanced heart imaging techniques allows him to perform more precise and effective treatments.

He is particularly interested in advanced cardiovascular imaging and management of coronary artery disease. His other clinical interests include heart muscle disease and sports cardiology.

Dr. Assomull also understands the importance of lifestyle adjustments during his consultations, particularly in preventative measures such as optimising diet and exercise routines.

While training, it became clear to him that many cardiology patients had invasive procedures without first trying to manage their risk factors appropriately through basic treatment.

This realisation shifted his focus to integrative cardiology and improving the quality of care being delivered in the community. Dr. Assomull was instrumental in establishing one of the most extensive community cardiology services in West London for Imperial College NHS Trust, where he led the cardiac rehabilitation service.

The integrative cardiology approach

Dr. Assomull’s integrative cardiology approach aims to improve cardiovascular care. While maintaining expertise in advanced diagnostics and evidence-based treatments, he recognised a critical gap: patients were receiving treatment without focusing on the underlying risk factors driving their disease.

After reflecting on his own cardiac and metabolic health during the COVID-19 pandemic, he further explored his interest in providing preventative care rather than just ‘reactive care’ for cardiology patients.

As an Integrative Cardiologist, he is committed to helping patients manage their heart health with crucial lifestyle changes. He was inspired as he worked with life-changing experts in fitness, nutrition, and more and has experienced first-hand the struggles of implementing meaningful modifications to improve heart health whilst living a busy lifestyle.

Dr Assomull’s mission is to empower those he treats to have the confidence to take control of their lives, health, and overall well-being.

Research and academic excellence

Dr. Ravi Assomull’s integrative approach is built on a foundation of rigorous academic research. His British Heart Foundation-funded thesis on Cardiac MRI Applications in Heart Failure has been highly influential, changing the approach to how patients with heart failure are risk-stratified for sudden cardiac death.

This pioneering research has resulted in multiple high-impact publications, and he was awarded the prestigious Ralph Noble Prize by the University of Cambridge in 2012. Dr. Assomull remains actively involved in research; his work has also been presented at international conferences across the UK, Europe and the USA and continues to be widely cited in medical literature.

Dr. Assomull also co-authored the ORBITA study published in The Lancet in 2017, which challenged conventional approaches to coronary intervention.

This depth of research expertise demonstrates his commitment to combine evidence-based medicine with advanced diagnostic precision and personalised prevention strategies.
